AI-enabled information technologies for multi-robot coordination

My 2020 honours thesis on distributed coordination, simultaneous arrival, dynamic obstacle avoidance, and task synchronisation for teams of robots.

139 words

This was my honours project at the University of Adelaide’s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, supervised by Professor Cheng-Chew Lim.

The work explored how a team of robots can coordinate in a distributed system: sharing enough information to act together, synchronising tasks, avoiding dynamic obstacles, and arriving at a destination simultaneously.

What I built

  • A multi-robot testbed that became a foundation for later research groups.
  • A simultaneous-arrival algorithm designed to avoid dynamic obstacles.
  • A task-synchronisation framework for a distributed multi-robot system.
  • A real-world deployment of the algorithms on physical robots.

The project became the research I was proudest of during university and received the highest mark in my class.
